John is a Chartered Landscape Architect, member of the Landscape Institute and of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
John graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with the highest mark ever awarded by the school for his dissertation, and a scholarship to study in Paris with students from the École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles.
After working on internationally acclaimed projects Schouwburgplein, Rotterdam and Borneo Sporenburg, Amsterdam with Rotterdam practice West8, he returned home to Lancashire to work with local communities, mixing nature conservation with public art to engage with people, culminating in the award-winning Hoddlesden Millennium Green in 1998.
In 1999 John joined Camlin Lonsdale, taking a leading role in complex public realm projects including Ebbw Vale Regeneration, Benchill Children’s Centre and Gallery Oldham.
In 2003, after winning first prize for a RIBA competition for landmarks in East Lancashire, John created consultancy LandLab.
